About UsClub soccer at UNC provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to compete in high level intercollegiate soccer while maintaining a strong focus on academics and other extracurricular activities. While we are passionate about playing at a varsity level and continuing to develop as players, club soccer creates a fun environment for learning and playing the game. Our players are friends outside of soccer and find the club soccer experience a great, balanced way to focus on academics while continuing to play at a highly competitive level.
In the 2016-2017 school year we created two teams: an “A” team (Carolina White) and a “B” team (Carolina Blue). The White team typically holds 2-3 practices per week with an additional strength and conditioning session; the Blue team holds 2 practices per week. In the fall season, the White team plays a schedule of 12 regular season games against universities throughout the Southeast and plays in 2-3 weekend tournaments as well. Carolina White competes in the Southeast Collegiate Soccer Alliance, which also includes Duke, NCSU, ECU, WCU, Wake Forest, and App State. The Blue team plays a schedule of 6-7 games against teams mostly from within North Carolina. Consistently one of the top collegiate club teams in the region, the White team's fall matches are played in preparation for the Regional and National Tournaments held by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). We have traveled to Phoenix, Pensacola, Tuscaloosa, Memphis, and Foley AL to compete for the National Championship (NIRSA National Championship website). In the spring, both teams play a shortened schedule consisting of collegiate club teams and NCAA varsity teams. We also host the very popular Carolina Cup 7v7 tournament, which draws collegiate club teams from all along the east coast. In addition to our successes on the field, we take great pride in representing UNC off the field as well. Team members participate in a number of community service projects throughout the year such as UNC's Dance Marathon benefiting the NC Children’s Hospital and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Off the field, our players boast a wide range of academic and extra-curricular interests. In 2015, the program (Coach Lars Van Dam, specifically) was mentioned in an article in the New York Times.
